I want to leave my AIM screen name on while my computer is shut. However, when I shut my iBook, it goes to sleep and kicks me off AIM. Is there any way around this? (Besides leaving my computer open )

When you put it to sleep, the nic turns off. So your aim client cannot keep a connection to the internet, or the aim servers. So no.

I think he means, is there any way to prevent the iBook from sleeping when it is closed. I'm not sure, but I know on my PowerBook if you have an external monitor connected (and the computer is plugged in), it will not go to sleep when shut.

I'm not sure if this is the case with an iBook, but if you do have an external monitor, try that.

The problem with this is that heat comes out the keyboards on an ibook, and it may warp the lcd

That said, I think kismac has a hack in it to allow for this, but it has been a year since I used kismac, so my memory may be failing me.

I don't have an external monitor so I can't try that. I'm also not going to try to get that hack because it's not worth it to mess up the screen just to keep AIM on. Thanks anyways guys.
