I downloaded Konfabulator today just to try it out. So far it looks cool but it gives the option to register it for I think $25.00 but I don't understand why I need to register it?
I checked out the websight for Konfabulator and it doesn't mention why registering is required?
It doesn't mention that it will expire or anything without registering. Does anyone know if it will expire or am I missing features without registering? Help me out please?

It's shareware.

I understand that it is shareware but what I needed to know is what am I missing or will it expire if I don't register it. I couldn't find this answer on the Konfabulator web sight.
The main reason I need to know is because I hate when some shareware programs expire after using it for a short time. I would rather just have less features instead of expiring. There's just no mention as to what this program is limited to.
Any reply from anyone?

There is no limitation, or expiration. The window reminding you to register and pay 25$ will go away. Thats all.

Just to explain, a window will appear permanently on your computer in a few weeks and not go away until you register it.

I guess you could call it that, but the developers have decided to sell it and that is their choice. But I don't think much of someone who expects things for free.
Don't want to pay? Fine, don't use it.
Use it? Buy it.

You will get a nag box constantly on screen after a while. I don't know if it'll disable after that, I uninstalled it when the box came up. Of course, the main reason that you shoudl register is that you should support developers of software that you use.

I was merely pointing out the fact that shareware began as a concept where a developer shared their applications with the world and if you used the app for more than 30 days you were obliged to pay a small fee.
Then they started to make the programs break after 30 days (crippleware), or make them remind you excessively (nagware).
I wasn't saying "this app should be free".
I'm not even saying that this app shouldn't nag me. it was a joke.

I thought the term came from the fact that users were encouraged to "share" the software with other people, unlike traditional boxed software where that would be a major copyright violation.

More or less, the 'share' meaning that no payment is required, the developer just shared their app with you.
