I recorded a stream from my Motorola cable TV box and it was saved as .m2t file. Is there an application that can open, read, play this kind of file?

The file extension would indicate that it's some form of MPEG-2, so you could try VLC. I can't find any definite info on the file format, but this page certainly points to MPEG-2 ("Built-in MPEG analog encoder" and "MPEG-2 Digital Video Processor").

m2t would be a MPEG2 Transport Stream. VLC supports it.
