I have photoshop 8 installed and it seems that after a few months of running a given installation it stops opening files unless I go through the program's own 'open' command in the file menu. If I double click the file in the finder, drag the file onto photoshop's icon or try to open it via iPhoto (as the specified editor) photoshop will open or come to the front, but won't actually open the file.

Anyone have any experience with this?

Did you recently upgrade to Panther via Archive and Install? If so, this may fix the problem:

Mine's doing the same thing and I didn't do an archive and install. I was hoping for something a little better than "reinstall Photoshop." Oh well...

All glory to the hypnotoad.

I did recently do that. I don't see the directory they're telling me to look in. Where are the unit types and what are they supposed to look like?

The file is called Adobe Unit Types. Try doing a Find file and see if you still have it (should be in Previous Systems/Previous System1/Library/Scripting Additions, IIRC). If you find it, copy it into Hard Disk/Library/Scripting Additions.

If you can't find it (i.e., perhaps you've already deleted your Previous System folder), then reinstalling Photoshop 8 will restore this file.
