What exactly is this DC++?
It was recommended I get it by someone to get a file transferred to me but I have no experience using it and I am not even sure if there is a port for Macs

Direct Connect usually works just fine, but some hubs have banned it for some reason..

I tried direct Connect
but when I tried to log on to that server it said to turn my tags on and wouldn't connect. I see no pref option that even mentions tags. Also when I went to add in my shared folder after I defined it it game me something about having unicode characters in the folder names or something.

That file from berlios.. what is it? There is no program I found within the decompresed folders is this some kind of UI that requires the terminal?

Lastly I tried MacDCPlusPlus and it would allow me to connect to the server I needed to andI even found the user I am supposed to DL the file from. But i can not search his files or anyone elses.

You either have to open ports and use "Active" or use "Passive". At least thats how it works on the Windows DC++ client.

Do you have a link to MacDCPlusPlus? I really want to try it out...

If you go to the dcgui forums, you'll find an OSX native version. The one you download from berlios is for X11 environment. I've been using either one on and off for a long time now.

Ya a bit buggy and can't download.

Been in alpha 1 since june 12th.

Hope the developers make progress (like downloading) soon because it is a really good looking Mac app and seems simple to use. A++ for effort so far.

So.. what do you use now brutal? dcgui X11? Damn official Neo-Modus client sucks so much I can't get over it and I haven't looked at dcgui for months now. Maybe I'll give it another shot.

No I use DCGui-QT, which doesn't require X11.

It's still crappy, though..

Ya I downloaded Fink and installed dcgui-qt v 0.3.2 and use X11. I had been experiencing too many hubs rejecting my logon because v 0.2.19 was too old or not supported and crap like that.

Running it in X11 is ok at best but frankly I don't see any real improvement over 2.19 in the current version. None of the icons show up correctly, although that may be because of the X11 I'm using (XDarwin free86) - Apple's X11 might work better I don't know.

The best thing I can say about dcgui-qt 0.3.2 is that it works. It has the worst UI in the world though so using it is an excercise in patience. Seeing the DCplusplus Mac alpha was really refreshing and I'd love to see it made, but development has been stopped it seems.
