i have set two rules to assign a blue background color (highlight) certain emails. those emails are:
Known Senders - Address Book
Known Senders - Recipients
but for some odd reason, as of today only. mail has started assigning the blue background to MACNN post notification emails!!
i only wanted this highlight feature to be for known contacts ONLY, so how do i tell mail to not highlight the macnn notification emails?
thanks in advance.

Just add another line. From does not contain macnn.com (or whatever the email address is)

i tried that. the messed everything up. it pretty much highlighted all my emails as known senders. i even tried messing with the if "any or if "all" switch when i added the line: From does not contain macnn.com but it didn't help.
any way to figure out why its coding it blue as a previous recepeint? i don't recall sending an email to macnn, ever.

I'm not sure I'm understanding how you have the rules set up. Maybe post a screen shot?

Have you *made sure* that you haven't accidentally added Macnn to your addressbook?

It could be that you sent and email to the macnn address. That made it a recipient, thus validating your rule. Try going into a new mail message and start typing out the macnn's email address. If you see it autofill, there's your answer.
While we're talking about rules, what's the best way to create a rule so that email from me that doesn't use the correct display name is flagged as junk? I get lots of spam that will be from John Doe <myname@mydomain.com>, but I only want to keep it if it's from James Hromadka <myname@mydomain.com>. How do I do this?

Do you mean the email is TO John Doe? If so, there's an option, "Message is not addressed to my full name".
