Welcome to EyeTV 1.5!

EyeTV 1.5 is a unified release that supports all EyeTV hardware products: EyeTV USB, EyeTV 200, 300, 310, 400, 500. Certain features and bug fixes listed here were already delivered with EyeTV 1.3.8, which shipped with EyeTV 310 hardware, and EyeTV 1.3.9, which shipped with EyeTV 500 hardware.

EyeTV USB Users: Channel lists and schedules created with EyeTV 1.3.1 or earlier versions need to be updated. The update is performed automatically when EyeTV 1.5 is launched for the first time. Please check your channel list after launching EyeTV 1.5 for the first time. In case of any problems please perform an auto-tune after quitting and re-launching EyeTV 1.5.

System Requirements

EyeTV 200/300/310/400/500: EyeTV 1.5 requires a G4 with a speed of at least 500 MHz or a G5 Power Macintosh, and Mac OS X v10.2.8 Jaguar or later. We recommend Mac OS X v10.3.4 Panther.

EyeTV USB: EyeTV 1.5 requires a G3-based Macintosh computer with a built-in USB port, and Mac OS X 10.2.8 Jaguar or later.

Under Mac OS X 10.1.5, EyeTV will not launch.
Installation

If you are updating from a previous version of EyeTV, drag the old EyeTV application to the Trash. Drag the new EyeTV 1.5 application to your previous install location (or wherever you like).

You may be prompted to enter an administrator password. This authentication is required to enable the wake from sleep feature.

EyeTV USB New Features (since 1.3.1)

EyeTV supports TitanTV’s remote programming feature. This enables users to schedule recordings in EyeTV from the comfort of any computer connected to the Internet and not only from the computer connected to EyeTV.

Apple’s Safari web browser can be used with TitanTV. The Guide button will now always launch your default web browser.

Check Guide Now command added to the File menu for both tvtv and TitanTV.

EyeTV 200/300/310/400/500 New Features (since 1.3.7)

Video

Reduced CPU usage during playback on machines that support Apple’s Quartz Extreme™ technology. To find out whether your Macintosh supports Quartz Extreme™, see http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=152366.

EyeTV analyzes the video signal to detect when 16:9 content is broadcast inside a 4:3 picture (“letter-boxed”) and vice versa, and attempts to eliminate the black borders that can occur. Note that this affects playback only, this feature does not modify the MPEG stream.

New “Aspect Ratio” sub-menu in the “View” menu to manually set the video aspect ratio (4:3, 14:9, 16:9, widescreen). Although EyeTV usually detects the aspect ratio automatically, there are cases where a manual setting may be preferable. For example, widescreen content is usually broadcast in 16:9 or even 4:3 with black bars on top and bottom. Explicitly setting the format to “wide” will eliminate the black bars during playback.

New “Display Options” command in the “View” menu gives users control over overscan and de-interlacing options. Overscan can be turned off to display the entire signal, this is useful mostly when the output is to a video monitor or television. Choices for the de-interlacing algorithm are “Off” (best when the output is to a TV), “Motion-Adaptive” (the default) and “Always” (results in an overall softer picture that some users may prefer).

EyeTV 200: Support for capture in MPEG-1 format was added. EyeTV has a preset for Video CD compatible capture settings and MPEG-1 can be selected in the Custom Quality/Edit sheet.

EyeTV 200: The GOP structure (IBP, IP or I-frames only) can now be controlled in the Custom Quality/Edit sheet. This is an advanced feature, most users will not want to change this setting. All preset quality settings use the default GOP structure (IBP).

Audio

EyeTV now comes with a Dolby-certified AC3 audio decoder. EyeTV can play back broadcasts that use the Dolby Digital AC3 audio format.

A new “Audio” menu consolidates audio related commands and adds a submenu for audio channels (stereo/left/right).

EyeTV 300/310/400/500: Digital broadcasts may contain multiple audio tracks for different languages or different audio formats (e.g. a broadcast may contain both MPEG audio and Dolby Digital 5.1 audio), if available these tracks are listed in the “Audio” menu and can be selected there. The audio track selected from the “Audio” menu will be used for playback and when a recording is exported or burned to DVD.

EyeTV supports Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound on the Power Mac G5 (for broadcasts or recordings that contain Dolby Digital 5.1). The audio signal can be passed through directly to the G5 optical S/PDIF output.

General

EyeTV supports TitanTV’s remote programming feature. This enables users to schedule recordings in EyeTV from the comfort of any computer connected to the Internet and not only from the computer connected to EyeTV.

Performance improvements when scrubbing in the timeline and editing recordings.

EyeTV 310: Both the “Smartcard” and the “Multifeed” menu items are visible only when an EyeTV 310 has been plugged in.

Bug Fixes

General stability & performance improvements and cosmetic fixes.

The Export code is more robust.

TitanTV and tvtv account names that contain characters other than letters and numbers now work.

A workaround was added for a problem with tvtv in the UK where schedules would sometimes be deleted shortly before their start time.

A FireWire connectivity problem on Macintoshes with third party FireWire cards has been fixed.

EyeTV 300: EyeTV now informs the user if the power supply is not connected.
