I just joined the group, to be honest, I joined just to ask some dumb questions. I think I already know the answers but just in case I'm wrong it will make my day!

In switching from a PC to a Mac, does all the expensive software such as Photoshop have to be repurchased? (Is there no "emmulation" type software to make pc software work on the Mac?) And do the companies, like Adobe, make the customer start over with the full price, are there usually upgrade type prices?

Thanking you so much for your input.

The main emmulation program is Virtual PC which boots up windows on your mac. The problem is that it boots up on top of the mac's operating system, essentially running two operating systems simultaneously. As you've probably guessed that's not the fastest way to run software, especially things like Photoshop and 3D software.
As far as I know there are no PC to mac upgrade deals offered by companies like Microsoft or Adobe, so unless you qualify for educational pricing you're looking at paying the full price (again).

I disagree with drive-thru - I'm pretty sure that you can upgrade (in price at least) from a PC version of an adobe app, for example, to a Mac version. The license may even be transferable - i.e. you send off and they send you the Mac disk free. However I am not 100% certain.

It *really* cannot hurt to call your different software vendors and ask. I'm not optimistic, but still.

The one time I tried to do it, they let me. Granted, it wasn't a $1000+ piece of software... It was GraphSim's F/A-18 Hornet 3.0, but they gladly sent me a Mac CD.

Try asking. It costs nothing.

I stand corrected, Adobe do (or at leats used to) have a cross-platform upgrade system, but it has been removed from their website, so I guess the way to find out is to contact their customer services.

My brain kicked into gear and I called Adobe (Duh) ...

The licence is transferable and all I would need to do is pay for the shipping on the new CD and sign papers that I'm no longer using it on a PC. Bad news is that if I keep my PC and buy a Mac notebook (Am checking on notebooks right now to buy) I would have to buy a complete new copy of PS for the Mac.

Thank you for responding!

You can keep your PC - you just need to uninstall Photoshop. Seems reasonable.
