aloha all.
i am looking for the best osx organizer and wondered what are the pros and cons and best apps out there?
i would like it to include the following:
calendar, address book integration, journal, various media files, passwords etc.
i have been checking out Formation which looks pretty good but the calendar isn't too useful yet....
any info is appreciated.
peace.

I was going to suggest Formation based on that, but then, ummm... well you already noted it
Not sure on the calendaring... I'm using OD4Contact as a contact manager and "to do" list, and I'm using Circus Ponies Notebook for journal, media files, passwords, etc.
Works for me. I also use DevonThink as a PDF/Word/web page repository for searching.

calendar, address book integration, journal, various media files, passwords etc.
Why does it need to be a single app that does all these things?
I'd suggest:
calendar: iCal
address book integration: Address Book
journal: if making TextEdit documents isn't for you, check out MacJournal
various media files: the Finder (?) - if not this - why not?
passwords: Keychain
CRM4MAC adds nice additional bonus things to the basic functionalities here....

cpac.
i was trying to consolidate these functions into one app but it just doesn't appear to be available.
i currently use the following:
ical
address book
mac journal
sticky brain
iview media (cause i photo sux)
pastor (but will be switching to keychain)
thanks for the input. i'll keep hunting and pecking around but this combo works well for now...
peace.

I got that - but why? It just seems that any app that did all those things couldn't do any of them well...

well it started with the idea of combining my journal, passwords, text, codes ect into one app. after checking out formation it just grew to other apps cause of its abilities...
really i just want to look for combining text etc.... images, vid would be nice, not necessary.
i'm always looking for things to make my life more efficient. i love apple apps like ical but i would love to have them more as a tightly combined as opposed to launching more apps.
wishful thinking but thinking none the less...

The juggernaut approach just doesn't work that well, and never will, in my opinion. The UNIX approach is best: Small tools for discrete tasks.
I've been very happy with the built-in tools: iCal, Address Book, Mail, etc. Then again, my needs are relatively simple.

yeah, for the most part apples little apps do the job. i find them rather limiting for business related work but for home they do just fine... now iphoto is another story.
thanks for the input guys...

I agree with you 100%, though I can see why others wouldn't. I journal all the time and I've actually considered writing an app that would do most of what you're saying. iCal isn't powerful enough for me. MacJournal (thanks for the tip!) looks pretty good and is definitely much closer to what I want, and lightyears ahead of using a text editor (my current method). But I want iCal and the journaling stuff integrated. I've been a daytimer kinda person ever since I took the Covey time mgmt course, and I want a life planning app with nice journaling capability.

I am more like cpac and the others when it comes to using smaller apps to get the job done. Probably the biggest app I have that does a lot of things at once is Daylite but that is really more specialized around what I do. Lots of features, don't use most of them.
Adding to the list of small apps that I like to use daily is Idea Knot.
I find this much more effective than stickies and I use it more than MacJournal or similar apps.

Well yeah, I think it's close to what he wants, but not quite 100%.
Read his initial post a bit more carefully

thanks. yes, this is the app that is closest to what i'm looking for, as catone stated. i am still taking it for a spin. the ui leaves a bit to be desired but i bet this app will be really sweet come version 2. i'm sure at that time the calendar will be more robust.
thanks.

Good lord. Formation appears to try to be and store everything.
Be careful how much info you put in it. You may need SpotLight to find something.
