...without re-encoding? MP3 trimmer won't touch the AAC. Is there something that will?

You mean .m4p or .m4a? (I.e., protected or non-protected AAC?)

QuickTime should handle both, if you have Pro. Though for protected AACs I am not sure if you can export, even if you copy the audio into another file.

.m4a but I want to create multiple .m4a files from one, and I think QT will only create .mov files.

If you have QuickTime Pro, you can choose Export from the File menu.

But wouldn't that re-encode the file? In other words, make a copy of a copy...? If I had an .aiff I guess that would work, but I don't think it is what I want to do with my .m4a

The application 'MP3 Trimmer' can trim an mp3 file, making a new mp3 file without reencoding at all. I'm looking for something that will do that, but with AAC files.

Ah, OK. I Googled and didn't come up with anything. Maybe email the developers of MP3 Trimmer and request support for AAC files.
