I just opened up a .mac account like 2 days ago. Both at work and at home I have wireless networks. From my home network though email I try to send just stays in the outbox and it says it cannot connect to the smtp.mac server, but when at work it works perfectly...

Does anyone know why??

Thanks for your help!

It could be that your provider at home blocks outgoing SMTP (stupid... but some do so).

Is it the same class of service through the provider? Or a "home" ves. "business" account (I have seen that difference). When you type this in the terminal:
Code:
telnet smtp.mac.com smtp
and hit return do you see:
Code:
Trying 17.250.248.48... Connected to smtp.mac.com. Escape character is '^]'. 220 smtp.mac.com ESMTP Service
or something like it? If not, then your provider (or something in between you and mac.com) is blocking you.

Just send the email through your ISP's SMTP server.

Not necessarily stupid... like 80% or more of SPAM is sent this way.

Ya, just use your ISP's smtp server, but I would call them first. What I did when Stanford (my service provider) started blocking the .Mac smtp server was I started using Stanford's. Worked like a charm ever since.
