I have successfully shared my music library with the pc downstairs which is convenient because my brother doesn't have to copy the 2900 songs from cds and other purchases.

The rest of my family in another city wants to share their music library with me so is this done from iTunes or Control Panels in Windows XP? Is it as easy as entering the port number or more complicated?

I went into Network Preferences and activated my Firewall and iTunes Music Sharing but I am not sure if I have to turn on Windows File Sharing because I really don't want Windows users to mess around with my files. Thanks for the help whoever you are.

You can't share with anyone who isn't on your local subnet. In other words, if they aren't on your local network (like in your house) then no dice.

iTunes file sharing is heavily dependent on Rendezvous, and so it inherits Rendezvous' major limitation: you can only share with people on the same subnet as you.

I have heard rumors of iTunes proxies; by setting one up on each end, you may be able to share between the subnets. I've never actually found such a program, though; it may have just been a rumor.
You are in Soviet Russia. It is dark. Grue is likely to be eaten by YOU!

iTunes did have the ability to share music over the internet, but once the stream ripping applications appeared, Apple shut that option down quickly (which was too bad).

Not sure if this will help you or not.
