Been using mail for a few years now, in entourage I had to set up manual filters (ie rules), mail's is a lot better. Course, I haven't used any other clients recently, so I can only compare those two.

The old Entourage had a worthless spam filter. The new Entourage has a nice filter in the same vein as Mail. But so do most modern filters like Thunderbird. You can also add on third party filters like SpamBayes or Bogofilter.

The Entourage 2004 filter is definitely a lot better than previous versions. One thing I like about it is that it works really well out of the box without requiring me to train it unlike Mail.app.

Been using Mail for a long time now, and it catches my spam pretty well. Rarely misses a piece.
