Hi Guys

I just tried to install Yahoo messenger and also AOL instant messenger. They both use installers based on Installer-Vise and both the installers hang on my machine. I have no idea why. Any ideas/advice/suggestions?

Thanks !

Keep them running. It can take them an hour or two for doing their "searching" whatever they search for, but it will work eventually.
Nasrudin sat on a river bank when someone shouted to him from the opposite side: "Hey! how do I get across?" "You are across!" Nasrudin shouted back.

Installer VISE is teh suck. Why do you want AOL Instant Messenger when you have iChat, anyway?

Hi Angus_D

You are absolutely right. But my folks back in India have a PC and I would like to be able to chat with them using Yahoo Messenger.

So I guess the advice is to let the installers run for as long as they run? All right, I will try that. Thanks Developer.

You could try one of the multi-protocol instant messenger applications for Mac OS X:

Proteus http://www.proteusx.com/
Adium http://www.adiumx.com/
Fire http://fire.sourceforge.net/

Hi Proton

Already use all of these for regular chat. Wanted to do webcam chat with my folks. Should have made that clear. Sorry abt that. BTW, since we are on the subject, can you guys recommend a good webcam that would work with Yahoo Messenger on the mac.

Thanks again !

I've sometimes seen installers hang on bad permissions. Try repairing permissions on the disk, and seeing if that helps at all.

I see no reason why an iSight wouldn't work with Yahoo! Messenger.

Yeah I know, but I don't think I can afford one. Any other suggestions? How about this.

BTW, has anyone tried iVisit or iSpq here? They are supposed to be cross-platform videoconferencing applications.

Thanks !!
