For some reason I have these blank cd-rw discs that are not loading in OS X. Whenever I insert the disc, the computer ends up ejecting in a few seconds. It doesn't even make any reading noises. I've had these disks for probably around 3-4 years (still unopened).

Here are some info about the discs:
Infodisc (manufacturer), 650MB

Thanks in advance to anyone that can help.

You might try contacting them at hj_won@infodisc.co.kr for help.

What are you wanting to burn? On my Mac when I insert a CD-RW Toast Titanium is automatically launched...If I then quit Toast, the CD-RW automatically ejects.

If you open Disk Utility, you can use it to burn the CD-RW from a disk image.

I suspect if you don't have Toast, your Mac is properly ejecting the disk if you are just trying to mount it on the desktop.

Cheers,
Matt

It's not even recognizing my CD-RW. Disk Utility doesn't even know it's there.

Use Disk Utility to create a new Image...Click the Burn button, the CD tray will open and you will get a window with instructions to insert a CD-RW. Of course if you really want to burn something, you'll have to put something on the Disk Image.

I appreciate the help MacMatt. I tried your suggestion, but it didn't work. I'm quite positive that the drive doesn't realize it's a useable cd-rw. As soon as I insert it, the disc just pops right back out in a few seconds. No whirring noise to indicate it being read.

Seems like a lost cause

Had problems in the past with certain brands of discs. Memorex in particular.
Just a thought.

You're obviously not following my explanations.

(1) A blank CD-RW will not be seen by your system...there's nothing on it to see...so it will be ejected.

(2) If you will open Disk Utility and click the 'New Image' button, a window will open for you to select the size, name and location of the new image you are creating. I like to locate the image on the desktop for convenience.

(3) Double clicking the .img file will open a folder with the name you designated...Drag and drop any file, picture, or whatever to this folder.

(4) Click the 'Burn' button in Disk Utility.

(5) A window will open for you to select the Disk Image to burn...click on the .img file to highlight it and click the 'Open' button.

(6) Another window should then open identifying your burner and telling you it's waiting on a disc to be inserted.

(7) THEN you insert your CD-RW.

(8) The same window will then indicate 'Ready to burn'. Click the 'Burn' button and your disc will be burned.

(9) When the burning operation is complete, the disc will eject.

(10) NOW, when you insert the disc, it will mount on your desktop.

Sure hope this is clear enough...

MacMatt, I followed your instructions and still it's a no go. I have a feeling it's the disc.

I bought these in bulk a few years back. I'm probably gonna give up and get some new ones like TDK or something w/a reputable name.
