G5 1.8 ghz never really used it before, it doesn't seem to even load the DVD in Apple DVD player, but it shows up on the desktop. Any click on anything just says something like 'not permitted' with a circle and cross hair. Any ideas? VLC won't play sound and comes up with a core audio error, but I really want DVD player working.

The "not permitted" thing is the same as it is in your DVD player - it's a place in the disk when you're not allowed to skip to the menu (so they can force you to see FBI warnings, previews, etc.).

But mostly it sounds like there's something wrong with your DVD (esp. if VLC reports an error too), and not anything wrong with DVD Player. Have you tried it with other DVDs?

Is the DVD a different region code than the drive in the computer?

No same region code, and yes I've tried it with other DVDs. I found a temp. solution for now, since InterActual player(free on versiontracker) works to play DVDs fine.
