Didn't know where to put this and thought I'd try here. Sometimes when I'm trying to watch video through Safari over the net I get this blue Lego thingy with a white question-mark on it. Anyone know what it is and what I need to be able to watch the video instead of the Lego thing?

thanks

That's not a "Lego thingy", that's a plug-in symbol. And the question mark means that a plug-in for the particular type is not installed. For video that might be Realplayer or Windows Media Player.

Don't be influenced by Real's bad reputation. Realplayer 10 for Mac is excellent. The Windows Media Player plug-in is bearable (the standalone app is crap though).

DL'd and installed both. Still not working. Is there some way to see what plug in Safari needs to play the video?

Danke

What link/video are you trying to get working?

it should tell you what's missing, and offer to direct you to a download page. if in doubt, check the code of the page and post a bit. someone will clue you in.

From Mactopia's Windows Media Player support page:
------------------
When using a Web browser, you may experience problems opening Web links to content that uses the Microsoft Media Server (MMS) protocol. You may need to manually enter the address to the content in Windows Media Player.

To play content that uses MMS, start Windows Media Player, and on the File menu, click Open URL, and then type the URL.

-------------------
I, for one, have NEVER had any luck when trying to open up mms:// files using WMP in OS X...

Works fine for me. Type the following URL into Safari's address bar or WMP's Open URL command, or just click on the link:
