I shall soon be (most likely) ordering a PowerBook. It'll be my first Mac, and I really don't want to spend tons of money on software that I already have!
I have Office XP for Students and Teachers, and Macromedia Studio MX 1.1 (Academic). I'm surely going to need Office for the Mac, and Studio MX is pretty much another necessity.
Am I allowed to sell the software that I have on eBay, even though it's academic? What do others do in similar situations?
I have the software, damnit !
Is there any way to exchange what I have for an equivalent Mac version, or...

I'm pretty sure you can't resell academically licensed software.
Before you shell out for Office 2004, try one of the free alternatives to see if they are good enough for you. My personal favorite is NeoOffice/J. Also note that TextEdit has rudimentary support for Word documents.

Well, I know that I see academic software on eBay all the time .
So there's no way to call Microsoft or Macromedia, and ask for the Mac version, in return for the PC version? Hehe... that would be amazing .

Sure, sell the software on eBay and use that money for the OS X versions...

Is that the only way? I don't know why anyone would want to pay much for an old version of Macroemdia Studio MX Academic...

It's better then nothing, right?
Have you actually tried to call Macromedia/Microsoft to see what (or if) they can hook you up with an OS X "upgrade" package? If not, give it a try.

Academic versions are not "upgradeable," though .

Then eBay is indeed your best option.

Do you think that I should call, anyway? I know that calling Microsoft would involve a fee and a two hour wait, so I'd only want to call if it makes any sense at all.

If you have a lisence for your MX studio I'm fairly certain that you are able to download the trail versions for OSX and then use your current lisence for them (and take it off of your current machine). There is an option in the menu to "transfer lisences" in all the macro media products I've seen.
