Safari 1.0 kept crashing in
Mac OS X 10.2.6 Jaguar every time I scrolled to the end of the
Safari Support page with
JavaScript enabled. I followed all the hints on the
"Safari quits unexpectedly" Apple Support page article
(Article Number 07657), but to no avail.
After much trial and error, I finally pinpointed an incompatibility between enabling
JavaScript in
Safari and checking the box for enabling "
Front Window commands" as available commands when
Speakable Items is on. When this box is checked,
Safari always crashes when in the aforementioned situation unless
JavaScript is disabled; unchecking this option eliminates this specific issue.
To check/uncheck this box, open
System Preferences, then choose "
Speech" from the "
View" menu. Then, make sure that the "
Speech Recognition" tab is selected. Next, make sure that the "
Recognition System" is set to "
Apple Speakable Items," then click on the "
Commands" sub-tab. The checkbox in question should be the fourth from the top on this tab.
