I have just made the switch to Mac from PC, and am loving my new Powerbook 17" so far.

In the lengthy process of importing and converting my files from my old PC hard drive to my new Mac, I have finally got to the photos. After a quick look at the Iphoto application, it looks to be a nice layout and I tried importing a few pics and liked the way the folders are organized. My question/s are:

Should I just import everything from the 'My Pictures' on my PC hard drive to the Iphoto application?
Will it sort them all out into the folders they are currently in?
And where does Iphoto store the actual pic files - Presumably they are somewhere on your home drive, but where?

How is the Iphoto application for touching up photos? I used to use Photoshop on my PC but all I ever did in it was change things to B&W, get rid of red-eye and a little airbrush - I imagine I can do all that with Iphoto yes?

Any advice woulc be very much appreciated, as always,

Thanks,

Mushroom

I'll let someone more versed answer the file management part of your question, but for the above... Yes. iPhoto can change a color photo to B&W. Version 4.0 (4.0.2 now) even has a Sepia feature, to give your pix an old-timey feel, if that's your thing. It also has the red eye reduction feature and, of course, all the standard cropping tools.

With Smart Albums, photo ratings and some of the other new features in iPhoto 4, I find it a very robust and useful program for my needs. If you do heavy duty photo retouching, you will want something more professional, however.

Thanks - I think I am going to import everything to Iphoto and give it a try - seems like a nice program so far.

you can try dragging and dropping individual folders into iPhoto under the library this will add them as photo albumns

HOpe this makes your life easier

or if they are named folders you can try doing a smart albumn

You can orginize by Keywords, by date, by comments etc.

Smart folders are super powerful why have your data in more than one spot right?

Anyways let me know how things are going?
It just works so I don't have to
