I just recorded a movie in imovie and exported it as "Full Quality DV". Now I have this 5.5gig DV file. How can it convert it to a better format (.avi/divx/space saving w/ quality)? What software?

Quicktime Pro. Once you have that, Divx is a free downloadable codec.

What the nerd community most often fail to realize is that all features aren't equal. A well implemented and well integrated feature in a convenient interface is worth way more than the same feature implemented crappy, or accessed through a annoying interface.

For a 'better' format try exporting it to a .mp4 file using QuickTime Pro (movie to Mpeg4). better quality for size than the two formats (also .avi is only a 'container' like .mov, they can be mpeg1's Divx's etc. lots of different codecs) you mentioned. the only downside being that you need QT player to play them.

I converted the .dv file from Quicktime Pro to Divx .avi and the picture was fine, the file was 120 megabytes, but there was no sound.
