I was going to cnet.com in safari the other night and it suddenly caused a kernel panic (I've been there dozens of times before and not had any trouble). When I restarted the computer, safari wouldn't work. It would open, but when I tried to go to any web page, it would go to the spinning beach ball and sit there.
Here's what I've tried:
* Repaired permissions, repaired disk. Both now report no errors, but Safari still doesn't work.
* deleted the webkit.framework and safari.app and tried reinstalling from the Safari dmg I got from Apple's site (1.2). The installer comes up with the compass in the background, but the installation dialog is blank and the buttons are blank. It starts beach balling. I have to force quit it.
* deleted all Safari preferences and moved all my plugins out of the plugins folder. That didn't do anything.
Internet Explorer still runs fine (I'm on it now) whether or not I have the webkit.framework in the trash.
Any ideas to fix this? I'm running 10.3.4 and Safari 1.2.2 (125.8) on a Powerbook G4 1.25Ghz with 512MB RAM.
Thanks,
Joel

Thanks for the pages. I also tried the following to no avail:
* Trashing the quicktime plugin preferences.
* Reset Safari
* Turned off all plugins in Safari
* Trashed ~/library/safari, ~/library/cookies, ~/library/Application Support/Web Foundation
* I've never used Pith Helmet
* I don't have Times RO font on my computer.
Interestingly, if I go to System Preferences and click on "Accounts," I get the spinning beach ball. All the other options seem to be working properly.
So it seems that Safari and Accounts are messed up. I don't know if it's related.
Any more ideas? I appreciate any suggestions.

Have you tried under a different user to use Safari?

It appears that the Accounts option in System Preferences has gummed up also. If I try to click it, nothing happens. If I click it again I get the spinning beach ball. The other options (display, sound, network, etc.) seem to be working.
If I try to log out (click the Apple logo, choose Log out username), I wind up at the Darwin/BSD console prompt.
Could my users be messed up also? If I hard reboot, I get back to my main user account okay.
