Aloha,
Does a very kind person have a Gmail invite that they can give me? I'd like to sign up before all of the good addresses are taken.
If divine intervention should lead you to be inspired to share one, please drop me an email.
Mahalo Plenny,
John

1. Google hasn't been giving out invites for weeks.
2. Wrong forum.

Hi Mr. Grumpy
It doesn't matter whether or not Google has been giving out invites recently, all that matters is if someone has one left over that they want to share.
This is the software forum, a forum in which browsers are regularly discussed. Yes, it could go in the internet forum, but it could also go here in the software forum. I put it here because of the increase in traffic in this forum. Google afterall developed the *software*... ba doom che..... that allows Gmail to exist........
Once again, any kind, and hopefully not grumpy people out there have a gmail invite they can share?
Thanks!

I have two, but I only give them to people who post in the right forum. That would have been the lounge, and you're doubly screwed because you were a smartass. Tough luck, no soup for you.

C'mon now, I was just joking around, that's why I put all of the smiley faces But the first responder was a bit gruff and brusk with his reply.
As for where this thread should go, I read through all of the forum descriptions on the main forum page. The Lounge forum says "Low carb alternative to real life". That doesn't say to me, "here's where a post about Gmail goes". Web Developement? No, because Gmail isn't about web developement. OSX? It says very specifically that anything that's not about OSX should go in the software forum.
Going by the descriptions on the main forum page, the Software forum is the only logical place for a post about Gmail given that it is about net based Software that is accessed via a browser, which is also software. I also don't see a moderator swooping in to move the thread, hence I believe I'm basically in the right place. Of course, you are entitled to believe it goes in "Lounge", but I don't think I'm far off by placing it in the Software forum, at least if one goes by the Macnn Forum Descriptions.
If anyone could be so kind to share a Gmail invite, I would be eternally grateful!

It's called being terse When I'm at work, I don't always have time to be lengthy and nice; have fun with Gmail!

I don't mean this to be offensive in any way, I just wanted to share a moment that I thought was a bit funny...whenever someone adds a smiley face to an otherwise offensive statement, and I'm not saying you did, it's like they think it makes everything better. I mean, "Oh...what an ugly baby! " or "Oh, you haven't lost any weight, have you? " just strike me as being funny since they're insults under the guise of being friendly. "*pats dog's head* What a crummy mutt! What a crummy mutt! " Just thought it was funny, and I thought I'd share it.

Email type communication, like on these boards, is a limited thing. It's difficult to convey feeling. For instance, if you have a friend who is being a grump, in real life, it's easy to convey "hey, you're being a grump" in a way that you let the person know that you aren't all freak out about it, just letting him know to lighten up and do so using humor. You can tell him in a smiling way that both snaps him out of the funk, yet doesn't offend. That's one way that a person can use smiley faces when posting to a board like this.
And you're right, just as in real life, a smile can mean something else, like "get off my foot you idiot ". It all depends upon the person and the exchange, these aren't black and white issues.
At the same time, we should value honesty in any exchange, it's the only way, via continued communication, to come to an understanding between one another.
In this exchange, the first responder, in a terse manner, was implying that I was wasting my time looking for a gmail invite because Google wasnt' handing any more out, and that I was posting in the wrong forum. The issue of forum was subjective, and a mere few days later, I received an invite. There was nothing wrong with me sharing why I disagreed with his assessment, and to do so in a joking manner, light hearted manner
