My copy of safari seems to have killed itself!

I've tried removing and re-installing it, I've also tried re-running the 10.3.5 upgrade to see if that would fix it but no joy...

Basically... Secure sites that require a login kill safari, meaning you can still type in the addresses of sites, but it just doesn't connect to anything.

Also, the contextual menu keeps saying 'localized string not found' instead of the proper options like open link in new window.

What have I done, and more to the point... how can I fix it (short of a full re-install)

Adam

Two possibly not so useful suggestions:

1) Repair permissions in Disk Utility
2) Use Camino until a Safari update comes out (1.3 - should be soon) and see if the update fixes your problem.
3) Take a break from the intarweb.

Create a new user with Admin access.

Test to see if Safari causes the same problem with the new Admin account.

If it does, you're system might need to be re-installed. But post here first, before you re-install.

Otherwise, you're user preferences are probably corrupted. Consider deleting the safari preferences from [main hard drive]/Users/[your user name]/Library/Preferences.

I have finaly given up on Safari and switched to Camino and firefox. Saafari was the only app on my G5 that could kill my DSL connnection or at least lock up the networking side of the system, requireing a reboot to clear. ( so much for the unix uderware stability myth) I was embarassing to have to reboot a couple times a day to reestablish funcionality. Using camino and firefox have not had to reboot yet.
