As the message says:
"The disc region code does not match the drive region code.
The drive region code must be changed to play this disc."
Ok, I got this, but what pisses me off is that they are NOT allowed to do this!
Region coding is some s**t invented by movie majors for users to stick to their area!
And, very sad, Apple follows this stoopid movie industry!...

Anyway, my question is: how do I krack my Drive to make it able to read DVDs from all over the planet?

Thanks!

look on versiontracker or macupdate for something called region X.

there are firmware flashers that will liberate your drive from the pigopolists.

Gah! Don't ever tell someone to get Region X without explaining that you have to flash the drive for it to work!

This seems to be the best place to keep up with region-free DVD patches. Be warned, however, that the guy who writes the patches hasn't been working on them for a while, so you may be waiting quite a while.

region x has enough instructions to inform and forewarn its potential users.

Flashed my drive a few months ago. No problems whatsoever.
Go for it.

Apple is forced to follow the "stoopid movie industry", because they license the DVD standard from the DVD Forum. Under the terms of their license, they are undoubtedly required to enforce things like region coding and user operation control (UOP - the thing that prevents you from fast-forwarding through the copyright warnings and stuff like that).

Angus_D, the UOP is set by the guy that is doing the authoring of the DVD. I am authoring DVDs for the movie industrie for 5 years and I first have been asked to limit the user control during warnings and logos but they changed their minds and then wanted a chapter point at the end of the track for the user to be able to skip plus have a direct access to the "main" menu. The thing is that they are ligally covered if the copyright text is part of the contents, no matter if it last 3 seconds and that the user needs 15 to read the text.

Then, regarding how the sofware that plays the DVD is working, I am far from beeing an expert, so if you say that some softs can ignore the limitations of the UOP, I would not be surprised as some ignore the region coding (VLC).

Well, anyway, I still have to flash my drive, I will work on this later following wataru's link but you are very welcome to inform me how to kick it!

Thanks!

So is the region code. What's your point?

VLC does not license the DVD standard from the DVD Forum. I'm not entirely sure if it's legal to use it to play DVDs, and certainly it isn't guaranteed to be compatible or anything like that. This isn't a situation that is acceptable for a legitimate company such as Apple, which needs to cover its corporate ass. That is why they must implement all the features of the DVD specification as outlined in their license agreement, including features which may be designed to benefit the movie industry and not the user.

Also note that even VLC won't work if region locking is built into your drive's firmware, as it is in many modern drives.
