I've switched over to the mail app a couple of weeks ago and like it. Ive been in the "training junk mode" for this time (1 week) and it has been very impressive catching most if not all my junk mail. So today I decided it was time for the filter to be switched over to auto mode. But now its not catching any junk. In fact spam that was tagged prior, now the same spam gets through. In fact I dont think it has classified any mail as junk yet. Is my mail app broken? by switching to auto is there a glitch that it turns filtering off?

Any similar experiences?

Having just read this at MacOSXhints.com, your problem could be that you first need to create another rule in Mail prior to switching from training mode to automatic (which is obviously a usability bug in Mail).

I would switch back to Junk training mode, open Mail preferences and create a new rule (which can be anything that takes your fancy), then switch it back to automatic. To catch any junk still lurking in your inbox from your abortive first attempt, select all messages in the inbox (command-A) and then (from the control-click context menu) select "Apply Rules"

Thanks that seemed to fix it. Weird [bug] though.
