Was just wondering if converting back to AIFF after converting an audio file to Lossless will degrade the quality. Is lossless truly lossless?

There should be no degradation in quality. Yes, lossless = lossless.

That's phenomenal!!! I was thinking of archiving my CD library on DVDs and ripping them as Lossless to save space, but keep the original quality for ripping back to aiff.

Is AIFF always lossless, or are there variants which are "lossy"?

Is there any reason to prefer AIFF over ALE other than the proprietary format?

I already started archiving my stuff using Apple Lossless onto a 250 GB drive. Takes time, but worth it. From there, you could always downconvert to MP3 for your iPod.
