Why is the date positioned high into the red month area of the icon? It's done this lately for a couple months.

I seem to remember seeing this problem at some point. I believe it was related to having two versions of the same font (Lucida Grande, maybe?). I believe Adobe products might install the additional font, so you might try looking in FontBook for duplicates of system fonts.

That was a great idea and I tried it. The font is Helvetica btw, and I did have duplicates. But after removing the dupes, a log out and a restart, it still appears. Next?

The problem is Helvetica Neue, which I discovered at Apple's forums. Everything is hunky-dory now. DAMNIT... I really like that font set too with the Lights and Expandeds!

Yeah but I'm a designer by trade... how the hell am I supposed to work without managing gobs of fonts? FontBook seems to work well for me and I've never had trouble before this.

I have the same problem, here and in other apps. I think if Apple is going to reference a font that may get duplicated it needs to stick it somewhere special a pull from there instead of the users fonts.
