My wife is using Apple's mail app on her eMac. Several of the emails that she has received in her inbox have a green ball (exactly like the blue one that designates unread emails) out to the left of them. We've looked everywhere trying to figure out what it signifies, or how we inadvertently turned something on, but we cannot figure it out. Can someone help us with this? Thanks.

i think that means that the person who emailed you that is online in ichat.

mdc is right, if you have that person in your buddy list in iChat, the green blob shows they are online at the moment. If you customise the toolbar, you can add a 'chat' button to the toolbar. That way when you see the green dot, you can click chat to reply to them in ichat, rather than an email...
