My Setup: Mac OS X 10.3.5
Powerbook

I recently attempted to run Virex on my machine. I first used the graphical interface & choose the diagnose option--this seemed to scan fine, reporting the files scanned, but after less than a minute it stops and after a brief pause returns an error message. The error message varies, but is always of the form "The application ___________ has unexpectedly quit." Where ____________ is some file that Virex was scanning, say a .jpg file or an mp3. Interestingly, the error message makes no reference to Virex quiting, though Virex does in fact quit. Also, the scan always seems to make roughly the same progress before dieing--when the scan is applied to a small folder, it is completed successfully.

From reading the Virex help files I haven't been able to glean any answers to this particular error. The Virex program seems to include a command line virus scan. When trying to scan via this program, the error message is (if I remember correctly) that Virex reached an end-of-file segmentation error.

I tried searching, but didn't find anything directly applicable. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Arthur

An addendum: there hasn't been a point in time during which Virex worked.

Which version are you using? If 7.5, delete and revert back to 7.2.

If on 7.2, trash the plist and see if that works.

The version as reported in About Virex is 7 (v. 1.0). I tried deleting the plist and running again...didn't seem to work.

Try the latest version (7.2 not 7.5). It's pretty stable.
