I use Camino (new builds rock). A lot of folks seem to love Firefox. Wondering how they differ other than in cosmetic ways.
Firefox seems nice, but less robust in terms of features? One thing i now must have is a "Send Link" function. I use it about 20 times a day. Wish Firefox had it.
Just wondering. Thanx.

The short of it:
Camino is a Cocoa UI wrapper for Mozilla, it looks and feels more like a "native" OS X app because it is closer to one.
FireFox is still a XUL app like Mozilla so it's advantage is that it supports all of the Mozilla type technologies such as Extensions and Themes.
Some Extensions can be "hacked" to work with Camino (such as FlashBlock) since it's still a Mozilla variant but for the most part the extensions don't work with Camino so technically FireFox is more robust and feature laden by virtue of being extendable and having an active community of extenders.
I prefer Camino because it's faster and has a nicer UI.

Firefox is the future of Mozilla.org. Camino is a side project that has no guarantee of continued existance.
That, plus the fact that Camino can't use extensions (without hacks, I guess; I didn't know that) makes Firefox the clear winner for me.
And Camino is not faster than Firefox.

very helpful. Thanks.
Would like to put Firefox through its paces. Is there a way to import bookmarks other than from Explorer? Haven't used THAT garbage in years.

The 1.0 preview release of Firefox really kicks ass. I have stopped using Safari, Camino and Mozilla.
If we could just get some decent widgets I'd be happy. They don't even have to be Aqua, just not those horrible boxes.

It offers to import from various apps when you first start it.

Since Apple was able to get KHTML, another open-source renderer, to use native NSTextViews for the text entry widgets, it should be possible to do that with Camino, another native app. If the Camino developers could do this, I wonder if people would still be pooh-poohing Camino in favor of FireFox.

I still would, because ugly widgets are completely immaterial to the overall usefulness of a web browser.

Here's how to make the widgets pretty.
(short story: simply put THIS usercontent.css in your ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/(profile name)/chrome folder)

Um, we're not just talking about aesthetics here - NSTextView comes with a lot of free functionality, such as the ability to use the system-wide spell check, Services support, etc. The fact that it is also not butt-ugly is a bonus.
If you think people don't care about the system-wide spell check when choosing a browser, you're quite mistaken. I think that if Camino switched the text widget to NSTextView as Safari, OmniWeb, and Shiira do, you'd suddenly see very little usage of FireFox on the Mac.

Well, we'll see, won't we? I sure won't be switching. I can spell just fine without using a computer as a crutch.

Thanks to Netflix, I just saw Manos The Hands of Fate last night and it was every bit as horrid as everyone said, and then some. A really awful movie. Poor Torgo. He committed suicide the same year the movie was released. I wonder if those two events were somehow related?
On topic, I actually prefer the look of Firefox's navigation icons/bar/bookmarks bar over any other browser, including Safari. Still, I like Safari best. I keep coming back to it, but Firefox and Camino are awesome browsers. You can't really go wrong with any of them.
