Hi All,

A client has asked me if I can encode some video I've edited for him into Real or .wmv formats for streaming (off a custom platform).

Is anybody doing this, and what software do you recommend?

Thanks in advance for any help,

Chas

ps. I wasn't sure where this post belonged, so I've put in into two possibly relevant forums. Apologies.

Your best bet is Discreet's Cleaner. It's pricey, but worth the money.

Microsoft does not offer Windows Media Encoder for Macs. Real used to offer a basic encoder for free, but I don't think they do anymore. You might be better off using a real standard, such as MPEG-4 (which QuickTime, WiMP, and Real can all play).
You are in Soviet Russia. It is dark. Grue is likely to be eaten by YOU!

Hi Millennium, thanks for replying.

I used to use Cleaner regularly back when it was first released (we were actually beta testers :-) up to version 4, but I've never been interested in encoding for Real before (I was _hoping_ that Cleaner still encoded for Real, but the app has changed hands a few times, took me a while to find it at Discreet!).

I'm trying to sell the client on a more standardised standard (hasn't the word "standard" just been destroyed by the computer industry? <sigh>). mpeg-4 would be nice, but the client is working with custom software and the developers for some reason didn't build in mpeg-4 support (perhaps licensing issues?).

Anyways, I'm very happy to get confirmation that my old favorite Cleaner is still alive and being supported! Time to finally get to grips with encoding for Real.

Thanks again,

Chas
