Hi,

I just got an externel HD for some storage and backup purpuses. So I downloaded the Backup program offer by .Mac and installed it. I looks really good in terms of setting the stuff you want to backup...but once I click on backup and it starts the process it says the bla bla bla file can not be copied because I may not have permission to do so (or something like that)...and like that thru most of the my files or all realy...so I can't backup my stuff.....really frustrating.

Anyone knows how to fix this? Cause doing the manual backup would take a lot of my time each week and it is just borring.

Any other suggestion would be most welcome.

what exactly are you trying to backup? it sounds like system files that you don't have permissions for or personal files that have their permissions messed up.

First step is to repair you permissions using disk utility then try it again.

when backup couldn't connect to webdav to verify I was a member I went looking for a replacement. though MacMaid isn't really a replacement but it can copy files back and forth. try it out and see if you get the same problem as you get with apple backup.

If not system files, like in Truepop's answer, check your file names.
I'm using ChronoSync, and it refuses certain characters like p.e. /

I am backing up personal files...pictures, pfd's...documents videos nothing fancy. I am trying to backup to an extenal HD. I know the external HD does not like certain characters...but the thing is that I am able to copy this same folders with the files onto the external HD.

Any other ideas are welcome.

Thanks.
