Hiya

I have imported a recording of a gig I did recently that was recorded using a Minidisc plugged into the desk. Now its one big track. What software can I use to split the mp3 up into the individual tracks? On the PC I used cool edit.. is there freeware or something that can do this job??

Cheers

If you don't want to re-encode you can use an MP3 editing app like MP3 Trimmer. You can also use Quicktime Pro, but that requires a bit of trickery.

Basically you copy and paste the audio you want into a new file and save that file as self-contained. You can then delete the Quicktime header to get a 'clean' MP3 file; open the saved file in a data editor (like HexEdit), do a search for 'mdat', there will be two hits close to each other, delete all data up to and including the second entry. Save the file, rename to *.mp3.
