After I usb-connect my Sandisk to view a memory card from my camera, iPhoto automatically opens.
I'm using other software to browse my pictures, so I wonder if and where I can stop this behaviour. Can anybody help ? TIA

Open "Image Capture" application, Image Capture -> "Preferences..." -> Camera -> When a camera is connected, open: choose your app (including 'No app').
If this doesn't work...I don't know what will.

Wow. Now that's arcane.
Browser preferences are in Safari now (no longer a preference), there are SOME non-music-related preferences in the CD/DVD preference pane, and you have this setting in Image Capture... argh :/
