I have been unsuccessful in finding reviews, comments, raves, rants, or musings re this latest updater. So far, not even a link at VersionTracker.

This updater should be benign, but we have all heard that line before. And should this updater cause harm, my business will most definitely suffer.

Any brave souls about who have actual hands-on experience they care to share?

It worked fine here. Its just an update to the update app itself.

Taking your sage counsel...

Uneventful as designed on a PB G4/433 and on a DP 800.

Thanks for the feedback!

According to Microsoft:

This update fixes an error in the AutoUpdate download progress bar, which did not accurately display the progress of the download. While this update is downloading, the progress bar might not accurately display the status. After the update is installed, the download progress bar will accurately display the status of future downloads.

or does this mean they're preparing an actual update and making sure people can get it? i agree, it's a strange one... and i don't like that auto thing one bit (mine's gone long ago).

Just to resurrect this thread - now SP1 has been released, what's it like? I can't seem to get it yet, though hopefully it makes word start up in half the time...

unlikely but please?

So larry...

Did you try it yet?

I live on the edge and always download Apple updates immediately but don't have the motivation to do it for Office. I am waiting for quite awhile on this one but am anxious to see the bleeders...I mean those on the bleeding edge...

I got it installed with no problems at all...anything I can try to see what's fixed? I never had any problems before so testing to see if anything is fixed for me is mute at this point...

Does it load faster with fonts activated?

Does typing keep up?

Does it do my work for me?

That last one is really big....

For me at least, Word seems to be more responsive. I haven't yet tried the update on my two G4-based machines, but at least on my G5 it no longer has any problem keeping up with my typing. Now, I don't have the live word count turned on (don't really need it), but Word seems fine.

Don't notice much change to PowerPoint (still slow, even on a DP2.0GHz G5). And I don't really do much with Excel that speed was ever an issue, so I can't comment there.

This is what I received when I tried to open up a Word document.
