Hi everyone,
I recently created a small home network using Linksys's WRT54g wireless router, which basically allows me to share my internet connection between my Mac which is wired to the routher and my Xbox wirelessly. I've updated the firmware on the router to the latest provided by Linksys, and I am aware of the NAT issue and iChat AV, which prevents audio and videoconferencing from working correctly. This particular router isn't on Apple's list of NAT routers which are configured to work out-of-the box with iChat AV. I was wondering if anyone has any experience in which they might be willing to share in regards to how to go about configuring this particular router so that audio and videoconferencing capabilities are restored in iChat AV.
Thanks,

JellyBean,
I think I found what I needed to do in the Linksys setup, but I haven't been able to verify if it allows audio/video conferencing in iChat. Make sure you have installed the latest firmware for the router, which you can check at versiontracker. Then, basically go into the router setup by directing your browser to 192.168.1.001 and enter the admin password for your router. Next, click on the Applications & Gaming tab.
Here you need to forward UDP ports 5060, 5353, 5678, and port range 16384 to 16403. You do this by entering iChat in the name field, the beginning and ending port numbers, UDP from the protocol pull-down selector, and the IP address of your computer which you can locate in your Network System Preferences. Next you need to forward TCP and UDP protocols for ports 5190 and 5298. Follow the same steps as before, only choose the Both option using the protocol pull-down selector, rather than just UDP. I think this fixes the issue, but as I admitted I haven't been able to verify if this is a solution. Something to try, nontheless.

I'm trying to iChat audio with someone on AIM on windows (latest version), and the option to chat is greyed out in the menu (but microphone is detected). Would the router stop the menu option from even showing up?
I'll try these port changes as soon as I can.

I'm having a similar problem. Tried doing the port forwarding thing. didn't work. Any more suggestions?
Admittadly I didn't forward the port range 16384 to 16403 because my d-link router only let's me make settings to forward one port at a time, not a range. I don't want to have to make 20 new forward settings... but i guess there may be no way around it...

Well, I have since been able to test out the forwarding settings. Everything works as it should now. The only problem I can see that you are having is your inability to forward a range of ports on your router. I would double-check to make sure you aren't able to forward ranges as I haven't come across that in firewalls, or router setup preferences. If worse comes to worse, then you could purchase a newer router which would most likely solve your problems.

Thanks
