I've just uploaded the first beta of "Spot Picker", a new macos X color picker which implements spot colour in most modern macos X applications. If you have Adobe CS (or another source of PostScript swatch libraries) and want to use spot colour in other applications, please beta test this for me.
The typical workflow is: create a piece of artwork in an application such as OmniGraffle, Border, etc. using spot colours from PANTONE; drag the result to InDesign to incorporate it in a document; create your separations in the usual way; and send the results to your print agency. It also works with Print/Save as PDF.
Download Spot Picker from:
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/b.hilke...SpotPicker.dmg
read the readme file, (installation is not completely straightforward yet) and let me know how it works.
Barney.

OK, beta 2 is out (same address). No one found any bugs, so I added : - simplified installation with automatic location of InDesign swatch libraries
- support for printers registration colour
- compatibility with swatch libraries downloaded from PANTONE
Anyone got any feedback for me?
Barney.

In case anyone here is remotely interested, I just uploaded beta 3. Now supports EPS output and spot colours with RGB definitions.
If anyone has tried it, please let me know! Does no one here use old-fashioned print?
Barney.

Barney,
I'm not into old-fashioned print, but I think I know someone who could use this. I'm going to forward it on to her and see if she'll give you some feedback.

Thanks TimmyDee, that would be really helpful. Reassure her that no one has yet had any problems with it, in spite of the warnings in the readme file!

Hi sushiism, sorry I didn't reply earlier, but I went up to the lakes for the weekend. If you have InDesign CS it should find your libraries automatically. Otherwise open a terminal window and type:
defaults write -g SpotPickerSwatchFolder <path>
where <path> is the path to a folder of postscript colour libraries. I'll post a new version with more details soon.

New version!
New icon (see if you prefer this one, sushiism);
Stopped embedding unused colours in EPS output;
Fixed a problem if you tried to use a transparent registration colour;
Fixed a remote possibility of getting the wrong colour.
Please upgrade.
Barney.
