Now DropZip is integrated into Dropstuff.
Anyone know how to get the FTP transfer feature to work?

Arrgh!!
I installed this to see how it is, but it is English only so it's useless to me. But the Installer removed version 7 that came with the operating system and was localized in German! Where can I get the old version from?
I really hate it that the installer did this. I installed the new version on the desktop and the old one was in the Utilities folder!

Great. (not!)
I uninstalled using the installer and trashed everything. So now I had to re-download the installer, and you can't get the Read Me without installing! Under no circumstance am I going to re-install this stuff just to see this Read Me file.
This sucks. An installer must never delete anything from my hard disk without my allowance! I'm really angry now!

this is all i can see in the readme about older versions:
Version 8.0.2 of StuffIt Standard is still available via download for those using Mac OS 10.1.5 or 10.2.8. Those are the latest free updates available from Apple for the 10.1 and 10.2 Operating Systems. It is highly recommended that you stay current with Apple's free OS updates. You can do so by going to System Preferences and running "Software Update".
Version 7.0.3 of StuffIt Standard is still available via download for those using Mac OS 8.6 - 9.2.2.
Go to: http://www.stuffit.com for more details.

It is supposed to be faster on dual G5's. Didn't clock it before and after so who knows.

Well it's faster on my G4...I timed a few compressions using DropStuff 8 and then DropStuff 9 and .sitx compresses at least 33% faster on my Dual 800. The speed gain for .sit is less apparent though.
My small nitpicks remain though...why do they keep those silly OS 9 folder icons in the Preferences?

I agree that is a bad practice. Not as bad as the legendary iTunes installer, but not good, either. One question though. Your English seems fine, so why is the English version useless to you? Just wondering.

For every day stuff I use Panther's built-in Zip functionality, and since most software updates come inside disk images (.dmg's), I find myself using less and less Stuffit-based compression over time.
Although they where the defacto compression utility in Classic Mac OS, I think they will eventually die, like Cassady & Greene did (Conflict Catcher anyone ?).

Yes the finders ZIPS are great BUT I found that many PC users can't open them.

Does 9 still have this ugly brown icon that was introduced in 8x or did they change back to the more pleasant blue icon from 7x and below??

I don't like the Magic Menu automatically loading on startup and appearing on my Tool Bar.
Use to be able to drag it off permanently, but now they have made it an actual application it reappears as an open application everytime I restart my pBook. Any ideas how to disable this feature permanently?

try disabling the Magic Menu from your profile's startup items:
System Preferences > Accounts > Your Account > Startup Items

I made an exaggeration in anger. I prefer all apps to be in one language only because switching languages is tiresome. The new features (which are they anyway?) seemed not worth it to make up against the loss of localization.

I've generally been sticking with 7Zip for hard compression (available on windows/linux, probably will be a while for PPC), and the finder zip utilitiy. I'd really like to see a simple gui tar utilitiy (tar can call gzip and bzip), all the utilities I've tried so far have been buggy crap that spits out archives that sometimes can't be decompressed (that's fun).
I've still got a copy of binjuggler installed, but I haven't needed to compress a "mac file" with resource forks in a long time....everything comes in dmg now. good, the only product from Aladdin I liked was Stuffit Expander as a multitool.
