I don't want to have that extra Junk Mail Box created. I don't want to have Junk Mail filtering, but every time I erase those Junk Mail sub-boxes under each of my 2 account in MAIL (1.3.9) they reappear. Help! I do have Junk Mail filtering turned off.

Perhaps so it has somewhere to put mail you manually deem as Junk?

It is for manual Junk placement. Part of the training period is to lable mail junk, which will place it in that folder prior to deletion. If you want no filtering and never place anything in that folder, it should stay empty. I don't think you can remove that box. Check it for a day or two to confirm.

Probably because it barely works at all and it's better to just say 'forget it' rather than constantly wondering if it's ever going to get a clue that emails for viagra and dick enlargement are spam???

I love the U.S., but we need some time apart.

Same here. And the additional 10% is caught by JunkMatcher.

Mail's junk filters do pretty well for me, too.

Try turning training mode back on and retraining it.

That sounds good except how do you do it? I don't see a place to turn it back on... and why would that be necessary. Every time I get one any junkmail I push the junk button in my toolbar and it marks it as junk and moves it to the junk folder. Isn't that supposed to give it a clue? It does get more than half of my spam, but it sure misses a LOT. Maybe those spammers are just getting too tricky with their misspelled words and there is no way that.

from mail.app's built in help:
To set junk mail filtering to training mode, choose Mail > Preferences and click Junk Mail. Choose "Leave it in my inbox, but indicate it is Junk Mail" in the "When Junk Mail arrives" section. When Mail is correctly identifying most of your junk mail, choose "Move it to the Junk mailbox" to switch to automatic mode.
fwiw it works well for me.
