I downloaded firefox and when the download finished, I had the drive on the desktop and a box opened up with the firefox icon in it. I clicked it thinking it would open the program, but nothing happened. I then saw my dock and the little firefox icon would jump once and dissappear and it kept doing that like ever other second. I tried to stop it, but to no avail. Wouldnt let me trash the box or eject the drive from the desktop. I then tried to force quit it, but an error came back and said that firefox cancelled the forcequit. I ended up having to cold shutdown by holding the button on the back of the machine.

Any thoughts on why this may have happened?

First of all, you'd get better responses if you posted this in the software forum with a better (more descriptive) title.

But I think you're supposed to copy the firefox application to your hard disk before opening it. I don't think that alone could cause the problem, but you might try it.

Agreed that this is in the wrong forum, but while we're here... This same thing happened to me! Eventually I found a way to force-quit it (I think I went into Process Manager or whatever it's called, waited for it to make its every-few-seconds appearance in the list, and killed it).

I gave up on it and haven't tried again. Sorry... no help here.

Got it too. It seems to be an issue with Firefox... not sure what exactly. Just copy Firefox on your harddisk before launching it.
