Has anyone figured out how to use this thing? Im adding servers left and right and its not blocking anything. I can filter an AD but it doesnt go away and it cant block flash files for some reason.
Man I wish this thing worked like pithhelmet.

To block flash just add .swf to the block list.
I'd have to see an example of one of your blocked servers to know why it's not working for you.
Here is one of mine: /.*\.atdmt\.com/
That's Regular Expression but it should also be able to block like PithHelmet
atdmt.com should also do the same thing based on their help but I've only ever done it with RegEx.
omniweb:/Help/reference/preferences/AdBlocking.html
Drag that link into your OmniWeb URL field or the Tab drawer to see their help page on the topic. I would have made it clickable but when I do http is getting appended to the beginning and breaking it.

Mike thanks for the response. I had .swf in the list but since Im a web designer and I view a ton of Flash sites a day, this option just isnt good enough for me. I would end up having to unblock every site I visit.
I also read the OW Help on blocking and I think I have a clear understanding of it. Here is one of my blocked servers.
.*tribalfusion.*
spinbox\..*\.com
.*doubleclick.*
Some ads do get blocked but some dont. It works really weird. I wonder if there is a bug. I wish you could import a style sheet. That would probably fix it all.

Man this is really disappointing me. I am just loving OW 5 but the ad blocking feature barely works. It doesnt block a lot of stuff and there is no easy way of filtering a certain ad out. In Firefox, you get a little tab or you can see all the block-able servers. Hopefully they work on this and make it just as powerful as Pithhelmet.

You can use a style sheet, the instructions were recently posted in the other OmniWeb thread I think. It's a hidden defaults command you enter from the Terminal.
I dislike the style sheets because they're too aggressive and block out too much legit content.
I haven't noticed PithHelmet being any better but I only tend to visit the same bunch of sites; perhaps that's why I don't see many ads. I've blocked most of them.
To my knowledge PithHelmet and OW both use the same parameters to block so couldn't you just spend some time copying your PithHelmet list into OmniWeb's block list? It would be nice if there was a simple way to import/export these things; perhaps they'll do that with a later version. assume you also have the known ad size option checked.
I assume you have the known ad size options checked as well.

Yes I do. I already copied over the server from Pitchhelmet and nothing. Maybe mine is taking for some reason cause I ad servers and nothing changes. Also is there a way to block only Flash Ads and not flash site?
There are sites like this one and Maccentral where I cant get the ads to stop. Some go away but not all of them. Its really frustrating. I have to look for that style sheet.

Well I did a search and I couldnt find the thread on adding style sheet.
By the way, does anyone know the default servers that come in OW? The servers that are blocked in the ad blocking feature?

Launch Terminal.app,
defaults write com.omnigroup.OmniWeb5 OWUserStyleSheetLocation (your CSS location)
You can drag & drop the CSS on to the Terminal window.
There's no perfect way to block/unblock just flash on a per site basis but you can set up a per-site pref that will not block any ads in the URL list (it'll still block by size) for just your Flash sites.
Just hit command i at your site and in the ad blocking section turn off "from blocked URLs" That setting will apply only to that website.
I had suggested that Flash have it's own setting early in the beta cycle since it's especially annoying but what was implemented seemed to work for most people well enough. Always room for improvement in those 5.x series updates.
Can you give me an example of a site where blocking isn't working well? I'd like to see what's up.

Mike, I figured out what was wrong. The preference file was corrupt so when I added a server it wasnt taking for some reason. I trashed the pref file and started over now it seems to be working. Thanks man.
