As far as I'm aware, the Omni Group does not operate their own forums. Neither does the Mozilla group; the Firefox and Camino boards you speak of are run by a separate though related organization.

If you read the OmniWeb thread, you'd know that 5.1 is done - they're just getting everything organised for a release.

I did read the Omni thread and I did read that it was done. I just wanted to see if anyone knew if they had decided on a date. Thats all. No harm done.

Sorry, didn't mean to be too patronising. The forum is done too apparently, so not sure what's up... the website suggests they spent all their time interviewing their pets

I'd sure welcome a forum. It would be nice to make OW stuff 2 or 3 dimensional instead of these linear omnithreads that touch on everything and are a few hundred posts long. Not easy to scan or search or keep up on.

You know what would be totally, massively, amazingly cool? OmniForum.app.
Here's what I see. You get a webforum like UBBThreads and it runs on a web server and any schmo with a web browser can view it. Or, you buy OmniForum for $30, which keeps track of the threads you viewed, has a full fledged editor, a nice interface for browsing and sorting threads, and lets you completely control stuff like the font size and appearance. There could also be a nice search interface that accumulated all the postings that met your requirement and let you jump quickly to their context in the thread.
Provided it could work with existing popular webforums, I think this would be a killer product idea...

Sounds pretty cool. They'd need to have plugins to work with each kind of forum software though... mebbe make it extendable so that people can write the new plugins.
I'd buy it.

What the nerd community most often fail to realize is that all features aren't equal. A well implemented and well integrated feature in a convenient interface is worth way more than the same feature implemented crappy, or accessed through a annoying interface.

Seems like it could be a cool idea but I'm not sure it's really an OW one. OW doesn't really bring any more common functionality to your app than webkit would, in fact it would sort of highlight one of the few weaknesses of OW's interface as it would probably have a layout similar to RSS.

Yeah, it would have to be supported on the server with some sort of web services API. If it was just screen scraping it would be a horrible, terrible mess. Apparently Infopop's Eve is extensible, but I think that it might not have what it takes to make a rich client app possible. I think it's a missed opportunity, both for them and for other developers, because rich clients could grow the online forum market, I think.
