I switched just before iLife '04 came out, so I don't really know what they do with these updates. Will there be any new programs in iLife '05 or will they just upgrade the current ones (or both). I just have no idea what to expect, and it will probably be out in the beginning of next year.

nobody knows for sure - and there have been very few rumors on this front.

It will almost certainly include an update to all the included applications (iTunes, iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD, and Garage Band). It may include a new app or not. As for what features will be added - the only 2 I use with any regularity are iTunes and iPhoto.

Both could see improvements in playlists/album management (nested versions of both are oft requested, though imo it makes much more sense for iPhoto). I'm sure they'll try to make iPhoto faster (it's improved steadily, but s l o w l y). They'll probably be updated to take advantage of various Tiger features (Spotlight, .Mac) - and I'm sure there'll be other things as well.

(PS - people will definitely bitch about the price, and after all the debate is done the conclusion will be "buy it if it's worth it to you, otherwise don't").

Apple is typically tight lipped on its products so your guess is as good as mine. They also seem to update iTunes apart from iLife.

It would ne nice to think that iMovie, as well as getting all the overdue bug fixes, could be made to use the CoreImage and CoreVideo components in a much expanded filters and effects library. The only thing is OSX Tiger would have to come out at the same time!

I would also like to see:
Nesting of folders in iPhoto, iTunes etc
Sorting out of dodgy titling (off-centre for PAL users) in iMovie
Better chapter menu alignment and layout in iDVD
16:9 support for both iMovie and iDVD

I'm sure we'll get some, but not all, of the above! Just fix the bugs first...

I hope iMovie gets updated and the speed is vastly improved. Right now, 4.0 is a lot slower than 2.1 was. I don't know why, but everything just seems incredibly sluggish.

iCal (not part of iLife, but...) is getting nested calendars in Tiger. So hopefully Apple will extend that to iPhoto and iTunes. Just liked Rendezvous sharing started in iTunes, and was extended to iPhoto.

And I hope, hope, hope iLife '05 is when we'll finally see a new version of AppleWorks.

Maybe you mean this by nesting, but I want the ability to have sub-folders in iPhoto. It would make it far easier to organize my photo library than what it is currently. I sometimes have several different sets of photos that fall uner the same general catagory. I also wish for easier copying to another computer. Right now it throws everything into a setup similar to itunes when it sees another computer even after you copy them over. Since there are no license issues let me have to the option of maintaining any/ all of my iPhoto library on another mac.
