For some reason, Safari has stopped automatically opening files I download (such as Real files, PPT, DMG, etc.). Any suggestions? And yes, I have the box checked in preferences.

if you are using 10.3.5 it might be the new security feature.

? not sure.

not sure either. Suggest maybe to try resetting Safari.

Try deleting the safari preference file.

You really shouldn't be setting your browser to automatically open downloaded files, even "safe" ones. I have long lamented the fact that Safari allows you to do that. Automatically running untrusted code is just plain Not A Good Idea.

I was having this problem, but it was because I had the 1.3 developer copy of Safari. I've since done an Archive and Install to get back to v1.2.3 with 10.3.5 and all is well now.
Come and "ROME" with my girl outside! A place for Luke, too! Ruthie and her Kitty-Elevator! My wonderful new young girl!!!
