Recently I tried to download a couple of files from ********. This worked fine a few months ago when I last tried it, but this weekend I was running into problems. When you copy and paste a link into Azureus, it gives an IO error.
I did some googling and found that this is a known problem, but when I went to the ******** site and checked the faqs, they say they've tested with safari and it's supposed to work fine if you just left click the link. I did that, and nothing happened.
It seems to be something to do with safari not passing the data to the helper application, but I'm not sure how I would set this up, as there's nothing in the preferences to specify which helper application opens which files.
Can anyone suggest a way to get safari doing this correctly.
Cheers,
J.
PS. Tibook with OSX 10.3.5

I'm not sure. I use Azureus for BitTorrent as well, and have .torrent files set to open with it, but even when I double click a file in the Finder, it only opens Azureus and does nothing about opening the torrent (or if Azureus is already open, it does nothing).
Is the link you're clicking on some sort of special kind like "torrent://" ? I only ever seen http links to .torrent files, which download to the default folder when I left click in Safari.

FYI: you can drag and drop .torrents on azurus.
Just so yeah know.
Its annoying you cant double click them, or make them open after download tho.

If you're talking about ******** you need to turn off any blocking in regards to HTTP Referral (aka last website visited). They had a problem with unauthorized links using too much bandwidth, so they require a referral to prove you're downloading from an authorized mirror.
Oh, and after further reading your post, you'll probably have to download the torrent files and then pass them on to Azureus manually.
Hey mods, since when can't the site's name even be mentioned?

Because those particular sites have been used for pirating software, and MacNN Forums have a policy of not allowing discussions that facilitate pirating software (mentioning those sites could be considered facilitation of pirating software). This is done primarily to protect themselves against lawsuits by copyright holders who could say that by not taking action they "facilitated" software piracy.
My guess is that since certain sites have been repeatedly mentioned despite threads being locked/deleted for the mention of those sites, they have decided to add their names to the "bad words list" so that they are automatically blocked out so that they don't have to keep looking for (continually increasing) mentions of those particular sites.
In short, nobody can stop anyone determined enough from pirating software, but MacNN does not want to become known as "the place to go to learn where to pirate software."

'MacNN does not want to become known as "the place to go to learn where to pirate software."'
How silly. ******** is good for all kinds of thingsTV, foreign films, documentaries, audiobooks, open-source software, etc.MacNN might as well ban informative posts on setting up an Internet connection or installing disc-burning software. Besides, many of us (myself included) live in countries where it is not a crime to share data with each other. We even have libraries (hope that word isn't censored too) where we can read books and listen to CDs for free!
you may not agree with policy but that doesn't mean you can just get around the filter whenever you feel like it. if you have a problem with it, take it up with the admins. -xeo

Ok, many of those other things aren't legally distributable on (that site) either. Just because a site has *some* legal items doesn't make it entirely legal. Maybe my statement should say "MacNN does not want to become known as 'the place to go to learn where to pirate anything.'"
While "many of us" live in countries where it is not a crime to share data with each other (it is doubtful that sharing a movie or TV show or commercial software is legal in many of the countries), MacNN is hosted in the United States, where it definitely IS illegal to distribute much of what appears on those sites.
The Moderators will agree with me on this one. Besides, there are other places online you can go to learn about how to find such sites. MacNN would prefer that these forums not be a place you can do it at.

Following your (or the mods') logic, FastTrack, Gnutella, eDonkey, Poisoned and Acquisition should all be blocked, too.
Anyway, I don't want to get into an argument. I just find it really silly and stupid that the name of the site is blocked. Lock or delete the threads that ask how to commit piracy, and let the rest be.

I understand wanting to CYA, but the information is easily available if needed.

Exactly. The mods would prefer people get that information elsewhere since it IS easily available elsewhere.

No, people can talk about the apps themselves. Heck, people can talk about BitTorrent. The mods don't want people to talk about "shady sites," if you will. As pointed out earlier, the information can be easily found elswehere. The moderators would prefer that that information stay "elsewhere," apparently.
