I'm having some trouble connecting my Canon 20D to my powerbook. It just doesn't recognize that there is a camera connected in iPhoto. My Canon G3 didn't have any problems. The Canon software works and I can download the pictures, but not through iPhoto. The other difference is that the CF card is now 2 gigs rather than 256 megs.

Anyone have any idea of why this is?

I *really* think getting a USB or Firewire CF reader and connecting it is the best way to go. It's what I've always done, and it works perfectly, without the need for any custom TWAIN drivers.

and if firewire (or usb 2.0 hi speed with a proper card) it will be much faster! the only downside of my lexar FW card reader is that it emits a subtle but continuous high pitch squeak when it is plugged in

I second this. I recently bought a San Disk FireWire CF Reader from amazon and it is much faster than either my USB cf reader or hooking up by 300D to the USB port on my G5.

I was thinking of going this route if I had to. PCMCIA readers aren't too expensive (I don't want to drag around yet another piece of plastic). However, the 20D does come with USB2.0, so I was hoping to not have to deal with it.
