There are new builds of AbiWord by some guy called FJF here: http://www.crazy-wormhole.com/download/

These are much better than the previous ones, with most of the drawing glitches fixed and dictionaries working. It is still a development release, but using it now to write a paper and it is silky smooth. Pretty stable too it seems, and the fonts look much better than before.

Try it out, all it seems to need now are some more Aqua-ish icons.

What a nice surprise! I had been using OpenOffice 1.1.2 for the last year or so but I've been keeping my eye on AbiWord... I'll download this build and see how it does on some of my Word documents...

That's one area I've been impressed with in OpenOffice, they have pretty darn good compatability with Microsoft documents... it's awesome.

Edit: Looks very nice now... but it crashed on the first Word document I tried to open. I'll play with it more, though.

The underlining of text still looks bizarre. About 3 times as thick as it should be.

I'll reserve judgement for now.

I'm glad Abi Word is coming to OS X though. It looks like a promising WP. Free as well!!
