I've downloaded OO from the link on apple's download page: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macos...enoffice.html.

Everytime I download, the file seems to be corrupted. I've tried multiple sites. Any ideas?

This doesn't really answer your question, but I suggest NeoOffice/J instead of plain OpenOffice.org. NeoOffice/J is OpenOffice.org 1.1.2 wrapped in Java so that it behaves more like a native OS X app.
