I have an All-in-one HP Printer (DSC1200) which uses a piece of software called HP Communications to Scan / Copy.

Once the printer has been used this software grabs 100% or nearly of the CPU, even though the printer is not in use anymore.

I can stop the process via the Activity Monitor, but I don't want to have to do this every time I use the printer !

I am using it on my iMac G5 running OS X (10.3.5), any ideas?

I have also noticed that the computer won't stay asleep when the printer is switched on, another problem to resolve.

This has been an issue with the HP all-in-ones ever since their first driver release for OS X 10.0.x and it is also why I will never buy another fricking HP ever again. They have had several years to fix this and it is still the same stinking POS. Don't expect any fix from HP anytime ever.

There are two current solutions - one is an AppleScript that allows you to stop and start the communications app which, as well as being extremely inconvenient, also means that you can't use it as a FAX. The other is to sell your HP and get something else instead.
